Your books are so good I thought that you must have started at a really young age. I was wondering when and how you started writing.

I was 12, in 7th grade, when our teacher asked us to write "a novelette." What he wanted was a story that would last longer than one page. I really didn't know if I could do it, but I ended up getting carried away with how much I enjoyed it, and the result was 100 pages and my first book, THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING AT MACDONALD HALL. Almost to justify doing so much work for English class, I asked my Mom to type it up, and we sent it to Scholastic. I've been publishing with them, and some others, since then.
That was in 1972, and I've been writing ever since. The number stands at 101 titles, and more on the way. So if you do the math, I'm going to be 60 on my next birthday, and I started out at 12.
