Dear Mr. Korman,

My name is JamieLynn Lisa. I am one of the competitive reading club coaches at Teasley Middle School in Cherokee County. Our club, the Reading Raiders, competes in a county wide reading bowl and the Tome Society’s reading bowl. Our students also work on the Tome Society “It-List” book projects each year, and we attend TomeCom annually. Our club consists of students who are avid readers, love book discussions, and simply enjoy completing projects related to what they read. These qualities in students are a rare and special find.

My reason for reaching out to you is because you are one of the 2023-2024 Tome Society “It-List” authors. Our middle school, Teasley, is the only Title 1 middle school in Cherokee County, GA, with 5 feeder elementary schools that are also Title 1 schools. Almost half of our student population receives federal assistance through the Free and Reduced Meal Program. Title 1 funds are used to support our students with educational programs and resources, but not for clubs.

This year, my co-advisor and I received news that our school was no longer able to purchase the sets of the Tome “It-List” books for the Reading Raiders. While we do have fundraisers, the money collected is usually used for our service projects, providing lunch and travel for TomeCom, and the school-wide literacy week activities that the Reading Raiders sponsor. We have tried to collect more with additional fundraisers, but it can be difficult with the Title 1 population that attends our school.

I am writing in hopes that you would be interested in, and able to, donate 10-15 copies of The Fort to the Teasley Middle School Reading Raiders. This would greatly alleviate the financial burden our small club is currently experiencing, allow us to continue to use what funds we have for service projects and TomeCom, and frankly, just lift our spirits & bring excitement to the group. When our students receive their sets of the “It-List” books, it is always like watching kids on Christmas morning.
