    Dear Mr. Korman,

I don't know how to say this enthusiastically enough: YOU ARE MY FAVORITE AUTHOR EVER! My father always says the way he knows I'm reading a Gordon Korman book is when he hears peals of laughter coming from the next room. (PS- peals of laughter sounds like something they say in books. Just ask my family- I LOVE saying and doing the types of things they say in books! Like looking sheepish or tousling someone's hair.)  My whole family is SUCH fans of your books and we have like a whole language of things from your books that everyone understands. I can't decide if my favorites are the Bruno and Boots books, or No Coins, Please or I Want to Go Home or maybe No More Dead Dogs. OR ANY OF THE OTHERS! My brothers are 21 and 18, and my sisters are 15 and 7 and you can't imagine how much your books are part of our life. (Well except my seven year old sister, but she'll get there!)

I know that you wrote your first book when you ere in 7th grade (which is crazy, because for me that would be next year!) and I was wondering: were you a huge reader before you became a writer? Did you love reading as much as you love writing? And what was YOUR favorite book as a kid?

Thank you so so much and PLEASE KEEP WRITING!

    Hi, Ahuva,

Thanks for posting and for letting me know that I have a family of superfans in Oak Park! I'm delighted to hear it! Your younger sister should be just about ready to start Bruno & Boots, right?

Your question: I wish I could say I was a great reader. The fact is, at age 11 I read only as much as I had to for school. My Mom, who worried about me growing up as semi-illiterate, sat me down and began to read Kurt Vonnegut's THE SIRENS OF TITAN to me. I was so into it that, when she was too busy to read on, I grabbed the book and finished it myself. I've been a reader ever since, and by 12, I started writing my own books.

It's that book and THE HITCHHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY that I consider my favorite books back then. Try them. They're awesome! And I hope you'll still find some good stuff on my very long list!

Thanks again for your very kind letter, Ahuva.                                    -----Gordon Korman-----
