Hello Mister Korman,

My name is Alix Chua. I am a 6th grade student.For my English class, I had to choose an independent reading book so I chose "Restart". I love the story, actually, it is one of the best book I have ever read. One of the details of the assignment was to choose a banned book. After I read the book, I did not understand why it was banned. I wanted to ask you this question.

Why and where are your books banned?

Thanks for posting. I'm glad you enjoyed RESTART.

There are various reasons why books are banned, but the basic one is that someone in authority decides that the content of a particular book is not suitable for kids to read.

Your question: I don't know where you could have heard such a thing, but RESTART is not a banned book. None of my books are presently banned anywhere that I know of.

My Orthodox Jewish school had pretty much all of your books except for Macdonald Hall goes Hollywood and the Son of the Mob series , which had just came out then. Probably for inappropriate content.

Not sure if that counts as a ban, but whatever.

Wow! "Hollywood" was pretty innocuous, like the rest of the series. And the 2 "Mob" books came out at the time THE SOPRANOS was the big hit on TV. But I guess anything is possible. I'm sure there's someone, somewhere who thinks Mother Goose should be taken from the shelves and burned. We live in interesting times. -----GK-----

I think they got rid of "Hollywood" as a values thing - they didn't approve of idolizing movie stars. It's a yeshiva thing.

Son of the Mob was probably for the prostitute scene.

But they allowed the rest of the books though - so I guess they were ok with panty raids!
