    Addison and Ellie

Hi this is Ellie and Addison. We love your books and have been reading them for over 3 years. Our favorites are Restart, Ungifted, Supergifted, and Masterminds! We were wondering how you write your books and how long it takes.

    Thank you!!

    Hi, Ellie & Addison,

Thanks for posting and for being such loyal fans. I hope you'll want to read your way right through my long list -- 101 titles so far with the recent release of THE SUPERTEACHER PROJECT. Next release in June -- MIXED UP.

Writing a book takes as long as it takes. My shortest was 5 weeks, and the longest took over a year. It's not finished until the story has been told, right? My method is probably pretty standard. I come up with a general plot, cast the characters, and write an outline which can take 5 or 6 pages. Then, when I feel I'm ready, I start to write the story. I'm sure a lot of authors will recognize that "technique." I always have to have an ending, and I'm writing towards that ending. See how it works?

Thanks again for your message, people. I hope to continue writing material that will please and amuse you.

                                                 Best regards,                                                       -----Gordon Korman-----

I love your books, my favorite is notorious because my 5th grade teacher read a chapter or two each day. And each day we would make new theory’s on what would happen next. So I have a lot of great memories of that book.
im wondering if notorious was based off anything?

    Thanks a bunch-

    Hi, Ian,

Thanks for posting. I'm pleased to hear that you're a fan of my books, and that NOTORIOUS especially made a hit with you. As you can imagine, it was fun to write, too.

The story wasn't based on anything real. Because of my own background, I wanted to write something American/Canadian, so I invented the island and the sharing of the responsibility for the lighthouse. And the American boy and the Canadian girl. And there's always room for a giant awful dog, right? And a nice little one? And gangsters? It almost wrote itself.

I hope you'll read many more of my books. The list is now 101 titles long, with the recent release of THE SUPERTEACHER PROJECT. And next month, a new book, MIXED UP, is due for release.

                                 Thanks again, Ian.                                                  -----Gordon Korman-----
