    Hi Mr. Korman,

I have noticed some of your books such as Chasing the Falconers, Swindle, Masterminds, The Hypnotists, and more have police/military/government etc. as important parts of the stories.  As a hopefully future writer, I was curious of how you know these groups will respond to unique situations, such as the army protecting the benders, and Agent Harris chasing Aiden and Meg.

    Hi, Emmerson,

    Thanks for posting.

I don't "know" any of those things. For the purposes of my story, for example, Agent Harris is the kind of agent I hope he would be in real life -- someone who believes in the kids and puts his talent and authority to work for them. If I had been writing a different kind of story, where the kids were in the wrong, and had to be made to suffer the consequences, Harris would have been ruthless in his pursuit of them. In this case, he was on their side while being loyal still to the Bureau. A tightrope if there ever was one!

So -- for future reference, when the story is yours -- your characters can do anything that your story requires. It just has to make sense on some level, that's all.

                                                 Thanks again!                                             -----Gordon Korman-----
