I am a teacher in Paradise Valley, Arizona. I teach the gifted identified students at my school. Our gifted program consists of over 70 gifted students. This past year I decided to read your fabulous novel, "Ungifted," with my fourth and fifth grade reading classes. My students instantly fell in love with you as an author, your writing style, the characters in the novel, and the plot as a whole. I have never seen students so motivated to read ahead or ask as many questions about a text as I did when reading your book. Of course, since then, we have continued to read many of your other great novels such as "Restart" and "Supergifted." You have a large group of Gordon Korman fans here in Arizona! After reading Ungifted, my students BEGGED me to allow them to recreate your novel in the form of a movie. While I have no movie editing experience, I of course said yes to this opportunity for my students to explore their creativity! A group of my students got together, wrote a 40 page script, assigned roles, and performed and recorded their own reenactment of your amazing novel, Ungifted! Well, wow!
I just watched the whole thing, and I'm blown away by the work and talent that went into it -- the scripting, acting, and filming. The whole thing was just fantastic! Gifted? I should say so!
The way you took the whole story and condensed it into your 20-something minutes was just amazing. Thanks so much for doing it and for making sure it was available for me.
You guys made my whole year with your movie. Thank you. And may I suggest you follow up UNGIFTED with its sequel, SUPERGIFTED. Laughs, and even a mystery, guaranteed!
