Dear Gordon Korman

 

My name is Julian DaMetz. I'm 11 years old, I was born in Oklahoma city, I currently live in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I am a big fan of your books.

 

I am writing to you because I am working on a Christmas present that my aunt gave me.

If I had to explain it, it's basically a bunch of tasks that I have to complete in order to open them.

The one I am currently working on is “write a letter to an author you love”; this is why I am writing you this very email.

 

The other reason I am writing to you is because I love your books. I have only read one of your books, The Fort, I am currently reading your book Schooled, and I have two books I want to read that you wrote. Mixed up and Reset. The reason I loved The Fort so much is because I love how the 4 boys eventually let Ricky in and how they work with each other to help each other and the fort. (which I love, they called peru!) What I love so far about Schooled is how Cap keeps his cool even though he is bullied and harassed and how he at least tries to keep his cool about his grandmother, Rain.(and how he does tai chi!) 

 

I just have a couple questions. First of all, how do you be a really good author, and do you have any tips on writing?

Merry Christmas, and thanks for posting! I'm pleased to hear that THE FORT made you want to go on to more of my books. I'm 100% honored to count you as a fan! (That's RESTART, by the way.)

Your questions: Writing tips -- read a lot, and write every day. A journal or diary, letters, notes to friends or even to yourself. Wtiting a lot helps you develop a facility with the use of language. And ALWAYS plan your work before you actually start to write. You can't say anything well unless you know exactly what you want to say. And you can't know that unless you plan.

Thanks for posting -- both times! I appreciate your support for my books. No, you wouldn't donate to me, David. The support comes when you buy/borrow/read my books.

I have no connection to Colorado, other than the fact that it's a beautiful state that I've visited many times. I chose it as the background for LINKED because of the remote areas of the mountains. And I chose Denver for the second MASTERMINDS book because it was a city I'd visited fairly recently, and for its relative proximity to "Serenity."
