I am a 12-year-old boy growing up in Mississauga, ON, Canada. My name is Owen and I love to read books, by you especially. Personally, I love your books and your work as the stories you tell make me feel like I am inside of the book itself. The characters you chose suite the story so well, which is something that is key when writing something as good as your work. Some of my favorite pieces written by you include: The Unteachables, Notorious, War Stories, The Swindle Series, and The Masterminds Trilogy! The reason I love your books so much is because of all the hard work and detail each book offers. To be honest when it comes to reading, I can be picky about the genre and topic, but whenever it\'s one of your books I know there will be nothing to doubt. In other words.. You don\'t disappoint!!! The main reason I\'m writing this to you is to put and idea out there that I would like to share with you and get your opinion on. I really loved your mastermind trilogy to the point where I got the idea of it becoming a movie! I did a bit of research and found out that there has been a mastermind\'s movie, but having nothing to do with the books you wrote. I think this would be a great idea considering that you would get at least 3 movies out of it that follow the three books. If you look at some other book series, you might happen to stumble on the fact that some were made movies. Harry Potter had a whole chain following the book order, Narnia got a movie or two, as well as the Lord of the Rings. Technically, the director has to come to you first with the idea, but it is something you should consider anyways. The kids that love reading your books would be thrilled to see your books hit the big screen. I would love to see a movie like that myself. You should really consider this as an option for maybe sometime in the future because as my uncle says, \"You only live once\".

I really hope you keep pursuing your writing career as I can\'t wait to continue reading your books. I bid you and your family farewell as I hope to see this happen myself. I thank you once again for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read this topic. I hope you might consider looking into something like this as it would be a big hit...

    Sincerely, Owen

    Dear Gordon Korman,

I am the same boy who wrote to you about the masterminds trilogy earlier today. While exploring some other posts, I came to the assumption that other fans and readers have mentioned making a movie of one of their favorite books written by you. Your answer was similar but the main response you gave revolved around the problem of that you can\'t make a movie because only a film company can do that. You did say that others can make their own movie as long as it won\'t be sold and used for fun purposes only. I fear that I may get the same or similar answer when you respond to my question above. I truly understand that you are an author and not a filmmaker which means it would be almost impossible to make a movie yourself. Please don\'t turn down this idea as I have a solution to this problem.

This link below helps with a few tips on how authors try and get their books on the big screen:

To open the link, highlight it and select to go to link which will hopefully work.

This process is called the books adaptation process which is where the book can hopefully be made into a movie or show. It is a longer process with a few steps involved, but in the end I hope it will be worth it. You may also do some research yourself and hopefully come across some information that will help if you\'re interested in this proposal. I really hope you take this into consideration because I believe it could be a big hit!! I hope I am not being too pushy with this idea which would be annoying for you to take the time to read this and reply. Otherwise I thank you once more for listening to my suggestion whether the idea will be possible or not.

    Sincerely, Once Again,

    Owen

    Hi, Owen,

Thanks for all your efforts, researches, and brainstorming re: trying to make MASTERMINDS into 1 (or 3) movies. I really appreciate the hard work, plus the enthusiasm for my books does come through in your letters.

The fact is, though, that undertaking the job of putting MASTERMINDS on the silver screen is the kind of operation that requires screenwriters, a first-class film studio, top-notch filming equipment, and countless millions of dollars. It's a job for movie companies, who hire the right people, find well-known actors (and the cast is enormous!), and never count the cost in either money or stomach-lining. It's simply not practical to think such a project could be done any other way -- creating the many settings alone would be a daunting job -- Serenity, Denver, Chicago, Texas, and all the travel in between. Believe me when I say that it can't be done economically.

And I wouldn't attempt it. I'm glad you enjoy my writing style, but the fact is that prose and screenwriting are very different fields. I happen to be an extremely so-so screenwriter (my NYU Prof. will confirm this!), so even the writing would have to be done by someone else.

Sorry, Owen. It's just not practical. Someone has to come along, find the books fabulous, and decide it will be his/her next movie. So let's keep a good thought, and maybe it will happen.

Thanks for trying.I really do appreciate your enthusiasm for the project, and your support for my work.

    Dear Mr. Korman,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my enormously long post on the movie idea for Masterminds. I appreciate you getting back to me so soon as I was waiting eagerly for a response back. I understand now that for the book (s) to become a movie (s) it would be an extremely long process that would take lots of money and time. I was really hoping to see my dream become a reality, but I guess I didn't truly understand the long process behind it. I love reading your books so much and really wanted to see a movie of them because I feel that you as a great writer should deserve something like that because of all the hard work you do when it comes to writing books. I really hope you continue writing as I can't wait to continue reading more and more of your books!

    Thanks Again: Owen

PS: This website of yours is fantastic! It's a great place to explore your books and everything extra you can do like contacting you through the readers forum. This idea is INGENIOUS!!!

PPS: Is it true that there will be a book after THE FORT... I loved the book so a second one would be spectacular!

Found that you told a fan that there is a second book of the fort, but it is being edited and published mind you this was an older post. Sorry if I dug too deep into the posts and found something I shouldn't have. I kinda have a knack for that sorta thing...

    Hi again, Owen,

I'm not sure where you might have gotten the idea that there is a sequel to THE FORT. There is not. There is a book after THE FORT. As a matter of fact, there is THE SUPERTEACHER PROJECT, which is fairly recent, and SLUGFEST, which will be out in a few days. (There is also a 2-book paperback called THE GAME, which consists of 2 of my older novels.)

And yes, sadly, there is more to making movies than just going through the motions.

And I've written 103 (when SLUGFEST comes out) books, so you won't be running out of reading material any time soon!

Thanks again for your interest in me and my books. Keep reading!                                 ---GK---
