    Dear Mr. Korman,

I am writing to say how thankful I am for the books you write. (and for an English assignment) Anyway, the first book of yours that I read was The Fort, and I LOVED it. It was very interesting and then I started reading your other books. I liked everything in The Fort. There was nowhere where I thought something could be changed. I think the characters in all of your books are really well designed, and they\\\'re pretty much perfect. I liked the way the fort ended because it was sweet. This might be a crazy idea, but for a sequel, you could have Marcus coming back. Eh, maybe?? It would be very cool if I could see my idea in one of your books. The Fort changed me. I used to be selfish and only cared about myself, but then when I read about Marcus and CJ, I started to try to recognize if someone needs help or maybe just needs a friend. Also, I recognized that when I am mean to people, nobody likes me or wants to be with me. I really, really, love your books, and they also help me do my English assignments.

    Sincerely,

    Duncan Phipps

    Hi, Duncan,

Thanks for posting. I'm pleased to hear that THE FORT seemed to speak to you on such a deep level. And the fact that you're going on to read more of my books is great too!

Your suggestion: I've decided that THE FORT was a one-shot deal. Plus it's not reasonable to believe that CJ's Mom would ever trust Marcus again and, for that matter, neither would CJ. Trust is earned, and what Marcus has earned is hardly trust. And, unfortunately, it's not really reasonable to believe that Marcus could ever change. People do try, but their ingrained habits are strong stuff.

I hope that whatever you read gives you a lot of laughs plus something to think about -- something interesting.

                                       Thanks again, Duncan.                                                      -----Gordon Korman-----
