Fatemah & MayarHi Mr Korman! Me and my friend Mayar are seventh graders and we have an ELA project, and we need your help. Our project is based off of your novel Slacker, and we are making a mock interview about you. We have a few questions we need the answer to. Number one, did the place you grew up in impact the setting of the book? Second of all, are the characters based off of some people you know? When did you get the idea of the book? Please let us know and help us!

Thanks for posting and for basing your project on SLACKER. Have you read the sequel, LEVEL 13? Laughs guaranteed!
Your questions: I grew up in a suburb of Montreal called Cote St.-Luc. The setting for SLACKER wasn't really based on that area, though. SLACKER was set, as I recall, in a smaller town. The characters are fictional, which doesn't mean there can't be bits and pieces of people I know, or even myself in there somewhere. But they're basically made up people. And the idea for the book came from the same place I get all my ideas -- good old hard work and a lot of thinking and planning. No big mystery; it's just work.
