Today was the day Faker came out and I am beyond excited. I also know everyone else is.

I know we just did the Restart book club but I think we could potentially plan the book club now.

I already got the book on my kindle and am hoping to snag a physical copy when I’m able to, but I know that’s not the case for everyone else. I know in other forums we agreed on mid July but does that work for everyone still? I was just hoping we can plan things out now and so that we have time for everyone to get the book. What times work for everybody?

Im so excited to read this book and share my thoughts.

Okay! If we're looking ahead at start dates for a FAKER book club, would there be any interest in discussing the format of our group conversation? I've loved the chapter-per-day format but it might be fun to try a different approach.

Here's one idea:

I'm thinking maybe we have a "discussion leader" who introduces a daily question or theme. Each day, we could cover two new chapters, and the daily topic would cover the whole book up to that point. Towards the end of the book, we could use the daily questions to explore the book's themes.

I'm going to use RESTART as an example. If we had used this "discussion leader" format, it might have gone like this:

> DAY 1: Jade might have kicked off the discussion by seeing how much everyone knows about amnesia and if we've read other stories where a main character loses her/his memory.

> DAY 2: Logan could have asked about how old we all thought Chase and Shoshanna and the others are, and which one we related to most (or which one we were most like at that age).

> DAY 3: Marlo could have asked which actors we'd want to see playing each character if RESTART ever gets made into a movie.

> DAY 4: I might have asked everyone to consider the book's cover illustration and what it represents.

> DAY 5: J.R. might have brought up the way family dynamics are presented in the book so everyone could consider how family relationships affect how people see and interact with others.

> DAY 6: Jade could have asked us if Shoshanna was actually crazy or just lost in rage when thinking about Chase.

> DAY 7: I could have posed the idea of self-identity and self-discovery and asked which characters were experiencing the biggest alterations in how they viewed themselves.

> DAY 8: Maybe J.R. would have asked everyone to consider how the theme of friendship and loyalty was important to RESTART.

@Marlo: I'm pretty sure the Gordon Korman fandom has a bit of hive mind. We all have a worldview where friendship is sacred and the best way to go through life is to find humor in the everyday. And we all really, really care about the characters in each story.

@All: When is a good time to get the FAKER Book Club together? It's much more fun when several people can check in fairly regularly, at least every few days. If the discussion leader idea is a dud, no worries. What format works best?

But I feel like instead of making a list and assigning people things to do, maybe we can have a whole list of things to pick from: and always accepting suggestions!

I like the altered format for discussion. It's more analysis and less page-by-page summary.

If everyone's schedules allow them to be rotating daily discussion leaders, it should help increase the opportunities to comment. That's a big win: Half the fun in a book club is to hear ideas you never considered.
