    Hi Gordon,

I am doing the finishing touches on the booklet I have prepared for "No Coins, Please" for my Grade 9 students. It is over 40 pages long and includes vocabulary, spelling, grammar, questions, creative activities and more. At the end of the unit, my students will write short messages to you. I will have them post them under this topic.

Unfortunately, Scholastic Canada did not give me permission to make copies of the book (even though it is out of print and used copies are very expensive), so I will be reading the book to them.

It has been so much fun for me preparing this unit as "No Coins, Please" is one of my favourite kids' books! Thank you for writing it!!

    All the best,

    Shoshana

    Hi, Shoshana,

Thanks for posting. Your unit sounds like a lot of fun! Lucky Grade 9!

Sorry to find the book out of print, and a little miffed that they have no plans to re-release it. I guess they looked at my list, found it to be 104 books long, and something had to go. Oh, well.

I hope your class enjoys the unit. If nothing else, they're going to know the benefits of being pals with Pete Ogrodnick. (They're probably also going to wonder what Artie said to the Road Hogs. It's a secret!)

                                              Best regards,                                                               -----Gordon Korman-----

    Hi Gordon,

I had a few back-and-forth communications with the Permissions Department at Scholastic Canada re: "No Coins, Please".  They were very nice, but, as I said above, I was disappointed that they couldn't help me in some way. They did put in a proposal to re-issue the book. Let's hope.

Thanks for updating me, Shoshana. Sorry the news wasn't better. But it will all be terrific if the book gets re-issued! Alas, not in time for your plans. Hope you manage to make it a fun read anyway.                                                 --GK--

    Hi Gordon,

Just an update on my Grade 9 program for "No Coins, Please". We started in September, but got only one chapter read and then we were running from missiles, rockets and attack drones so we were on Zoom for almost three months. I live in northern Israel. Thank God we have just gotten back to school. I read them Chapter Two and they are really into the story and are learning so much vocabulary. I will keep you updated and the students will also write to you.

    All the best,

    Shoshana

Wonderful to hear from you, Shoshana, and even more amazingly wonderful that you are all safe and well. I'm glad the class is enjoying the book. I'll be pleased to hear from them in any vocabulary!                               --Gordon Korman--

    Hi Gordon,

We have just finished Chapter 7 "No Frills". The kids are really enjoying listening to Artie's adventure, learning lots of new words and really involved when I ask questions during the reading! By the way, a small coincidence, my daughter (now 22) changed her name to Artie (short for Artemisia - the first name of an Italian painter that she loves).  Do you do school Zoom visits? How wonderful it would be for the kids to actually talk to you!!
