Dear Gordon Korman,

Me and my brother are both big fans of your books. I want to be an author when I am older and even right now I write books and sell them on the playground at recess. I can mail you one of them if you’d like. I was wondering if you have any advice for me as an author.

Thanks for your offer, but I've had to make it my policy not to read other writers' work, as it would end up taking away all my own writing time. But I have certain fans, like Jade, who is also a working writer, and who is very supportive of other writers, so I hope you can discuss your work with her. 1. I like writing books, but I am not as accomplished as my brother Bentley (he wrote to you earlier), but I am currently working on a book, and I am wondering If you any advice to me as an author.

2. I like writing, but not as much as reading. Me and my brother think it’s so cool that you got a book published as early as fourteen, and I found a few authors that I like one or two books books from like: Stuart Gibbs, or Jim Palliot, but I love all your books. I’m only getting started. A few of them I’ve read are: Titanic, The Unteachables, The Superteacher Project, Linked, Mixed Up, and all of the Swindle series. I love your books so much, and I better get back to reading! PS. My favorite Gordon Korman book is probably Notorious.

Thanks for writing and, more to the point, thanks for reading! I'm pleased to hear that my books have been going over so well with you and Bentley. And I'm especially happy that NOTORIOUS, which didn't make such a big splash when it was released, is your favorite among my books. I loved writing it, especially the Canada/USA theme for the island.

Advice: you're already doing it. Reading a lot is my first item. And writing a lot is the second one. Write everything -- letters, notes, a diary, even your impressions of a book or a TV show. Writing is something you get better at by doing it. It also helps you develop a style that will be all your own.

Good luck to both you and Bentley. I hope to be writing you each a fan letter one day soon.
