    Dear Gordon Korman,

I love your books! I mean I can't choose my favorite! Because unplugged is so good, but then there's also ungifted {'Cause I mean Abigail Lee is so relatable!} and I'm excited to read the book The Super Teacher Project once it comes to my library! Along with your books I've been writing one of my own called He's Looking at My Brother sort of the murder mystery type but I'm having trouble with the scary part since I'm more familiar with the comedy style with a sprinkle of romance. Since I get so inspired by your books I was wondering if you could give me some tips since I know you've made some mystery feel kinda books {well not mystery but ya know like in Linked they had to find out who drew the swastikas (also I think if you made two worlds join it should be Ungifted and Linked, because I think Noah Youkilis would think it's so cool to see a YouTuber, alias Adam Tok, in real life since, I mean he's in his own YouTube world, he even calculated how long it would take him to watch all the videos on YouTube!)}. So, I would really enjoy your input on whatever you have to say to my story. Also, I'm in the process of switching everything to different perspectives instead of Just the main, main character! he's looking at my brother storybook.docx (sharepoint.com)

    Hi, Colins,

Thanks for posting. I'm glad you like my books, and very pleased that you've started writing a book of your own. I'm always pleased to be able to think that I might have inspired someone to write! Did I?

Tips: it's hard for me to know what you're asking about. My advice to you is to plan your story carefully, and then write slowly and carefully towards your planned ending. That's exactly what I do. Don't rush anything. Sometimes it's the timing of your story -- the speed at which you reveal your plot -- that's hard to get hold of for a beginning writer. Don't rush things.

Good luck, Colins. I hope you'll write a lot of books, and I also hope you'll continue to read and enjoy mine.

                                            Best regards,                                                             -----Gordon Korman-----

    Hi,

Thanks for posting. Congratulatons on your book.

What an author does with a finished book, typed, double-spaced, one side of the page only, is send it to a publisher. You can get a list of publishers from a library book called Writers' Markets. It lists all the publishing companies, including whether or not they accept manuscripts that come from the author rather than an agent. I didn't have an agent when I started, but I have one now. To make a long story short, if the publisher likes your book, they will buy the rights from you and do whatever it takes (cover art, editing) to publish it, paying you a percentage of the price they charge for the book. Conversely, if they don't like it, you should provide return postage and a self-addressed envelope for the return of your manuscript.

I have the feeling you're asking about self-publishing. I'm afraid I know nothing about it, how to access it, or what it might cost. I have never self-published, and I have 104 books out there in the world. I would guess that it involves finding a company that does that sort of thing, and finding out what it will cost for publication and all that it entails, including editing, cover art, and distribution of the finished product.

Have I been very boring? I hope some of this has been helpful too. Good luck!

                                            Regards,                                                               -----Gordon Korman-----
