Hello! I am a fourth grade teacher, and every year, my first read-aloud is I Want to Go Home. I tell the students that I read it because it was MY favorite book when I was in fourth grade! It still holds up- they always love it (although these days I have to explain what a walkman is!).

So this year, as we were doing our author studies, I used you as my example. As we were searching your website we came across the readers forum, and my kids thought it would be fun to send a message just in case you reply. I have been a fan for 40 years and I continue to introduce your books to kids. Thanks for all you do to inspire young readers!

Thanks for reaching out! I'm pleased to be able to greet a group of Rudy Miller fans. I was 15 when I wrote I WANT TO GO HOME, and that was 40+ year ago. I'm astonished at the book's lengevity. (And I, too, barely remember what a Walkman is!)

I've written a lot of books since then. The next one to be released, on January 14th, is called OLD SCHOOL, and will be,if you can believe it, #105 on my list. So I hope your 4th graders will plan to read on.

Laura - I'm happy you are reading the original editions! The later prints have the walkmans replaced with a CD player.
