I am a 6th grader at Our Lady of Mercy School in East Greenwich, RI. Every month, our English teacher assigns a project called “the independent reading check,” in which we take a book we have read and do some activity with it.  For this month, we have received a constant favorite from our English teacher, which is to write a letter to an author. I have read many of your books, but my favorite was your Slacker series. It had many paragraphs that reminded me of someone or something and brought back some memories of other school years. I wish you could write another book in the series. I think it would engage many of the book's fans, and it makes sense from the story standpoint that it should be continued. I have read that you don’t plan on continuing the series, but I will still hope for another one. Please don’t think that I am writing this just because of a school assignment, but know that a letter from me would have eventually found its way into your mailbox, assigned or not. Another series that you have written that I also enjoyed was your Masterminds series. I think that some of the cliffhangers and plot twists were completely deserved and enjoyed by many other readers. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you will take into account my feedback.

Thanks for posting and for writing to me even though it was NOT an assignment!

I appreciate your comments on SLACKER and MASTERMINDS. Both were big successes for me, especially MASTERMINDS. I don't plan to write sequels, or even prequels (as someone suggested) but that could change. It's what I call "an indefinite maybe." Sorry, but it will have to do for the moment.

I was in class and I checked to see if there was a response. My friend Julian was very excited when he heard you responded. His favorite of your books is War Stories and Restart. As I write this, my friends want to say something too. This is from one of my other friends, Tommy. He says he liked your book, ungifted. I wish we could have the school bring you here and do an author talk. You have many fans.

Dear Mr. Korman

      Word has been going around that I found a way to talk to you, and even my school principal congratulated me in the hallway on my way to homeroom. I have been told to call you by your last name without including your first name, for which I apologize for using your first name the first two times I wrote to you.  We have a fundraiser at my school called Spring Fling. In the past, we have auctioned off virtual author visits. I requested this to maybe happen this year to my school principal, and I hope it can happen. We also have a book fair coming up on April 2nd through 7th, and I will keep a lookout for your books!
