Hi! I'm a science teacher working with an ELA teacher with the Island trilogy books. For my part, I am giving the students some science and engineering challenges to work with. I'm wondering if you can link me to an image that would best represent the Phoenix. I understand that it is a 60' CNC Schooner. But, I'm struggling with finding an image that would help me in designing the challenge for the cabin top makeshift raft. Students are going to try to keep their Lego figure characters afloat through some challenges based on the book.

Any help with visuals would be really appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hi, Leah,

Ouch, I wrote it a long time ago, back in 2001. I envisioned a raised part of the deck that would serve as a roof shelter for the sleepers below. That "roof" was what survived and provided the raft that got them to the island.  Sorry, but I have no drawing. I did, however, have the guidance of a gentleman sailor from Rhode Island with whom I've lost touch, and who was the one who told me about the vagaries of onboard toilets and details about wind and sails. You might try looking on line, but I haven't had  much luck there either.

I hope the kids are enjoying the books.                                                      -----Gordon Korman-----
