A headcanon for Masterminds I have is that the "parents" all intentionally went with different parenting styles to see how that affected the outcome, like how Malik was raised like a prince, and Tori was raised with high amounts of affection. Another one for that series is that Hector is preternaturally excellent at lying because of his genetics, and he only withheld this talent in Serenity because of the high moral standards and his parents scaring him out of it.

For the Gifted duology/soon-to-be-trilogy is that Noah was, in fact, raised like Cassandra Cain, just swap out fighting skills with academia, which is why he has no other aptitudes. Also, Donovan is actually pretty good at surviving fights (just not with people far stronger than him)because he's incited so many over the years.

Jett is Russian (this idea is from his last name)and likes to make jokes about getting his shenaniganry from secretly being a descendant of Rasputin, or getting his aptitude for lock-picking from Sonya Goldenhands (actual person by the way, she was allegedly so popular with the people that all the adoring crowds made her hard to arrest). He knows very little about Russian history, so his entire perception of Rasputin is the Boney M song.

The tradition of Don't Care High being Don't Care High was started by a principal so depressed and pessimistic, he infected the entire student body, and lots of teachers.
